Mum in court for not making her seven-year-old son go to school

A mother has appeared in court after she failed to make her son go to school.

The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, regularly did not attend his school between November 17, 2016, and February 10, 2017.

He was seven years old when this period of truancy from the south Bristol school started.

His mum admitted she knowingly failed to make him attend when she appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on June 22.

She pleaded guilty to violating Section 444 of the Education Act 1996.

The defendant will be sentenced at the same court on July 24, after a pre-sentence report is prepared.
