Mum in £270 dispute with car wash over windscreen wiper 'damage'

A motorist left hundreds of pounds out of pocket is locked in a windscreen wiper dispute with a car wash.

Mum of two Libbi Kirkby says soon after she left Star Wash car wash in Leek one of her wipers began making an 'excruciating noise’, the Stoke Sentinel reports.

Libbi says both the windscreen and the wiper fittings of her VW Golf Plus needed to be replaced at a cost of £270 - plus VAT and labour.

But car wash owner Diyar Kadir says his business is not to blame.

Libbi says the windscreen needed to be replaced after the scraping of the metal arm of the wiper gouged a hole in the glass. She says she has been offered two free car washes by the car wash.

The mum was unable to drive her two children to school while her car was off the road for the repairs.

She said: “I’m a business owner and if one of my clients came to me to say they weren’t happy I’d go above and beyond to put it right, which they have so far not offered to do.”

Mr Kadir believes the wiper must have been broken before the vehicle arrived at the car wash or after it left. Star Wash - which is behind the Dyers Arms pub - has been operating in Leek for the past three years.

He said: “Nothing happened here, nothing at all.”

He added: “We’re famous in Leek. This car wash is famous in Leek for doing a good job.”
