Mum hunts down daughter's killer by snaring him with fake profile in dark new Netflix doc

A mum who promised her dying daughter that she would hunt down her killer resorts creates a fake profile in a dark new Netflix documentary.

Mother-of-two Crystal Theobald was just 24 years old when fatally shot in 2006, sparking a decade-long hunt for justice for her mum Belinda Lane.

A dramatic new trailer shows Belinda speak about her determination to find her daughter's killer after seeing her fatally shot right in front of her.

"My daughter, Crystal, and my son, Justin, get right up here," she says while manoeuvring model cars to show the positioning of the vehicles on the road. "I look over and I see the gun."

Tearfully, she says: "The last thing I got to say to her - I promised her that I was gonna get 'em. They're gonna pay."

Crystal's cousin Jaimie explains that she was told that the people involved in Crystal's murder had Myspace.

"Aunt Belinda came up with the idea of making Crystal a Myspace," she adds. "I said, 'I can get information for you.'"

Belinda continues: "We decided to name her Angel. Boy, they just started responding. Ping, ping, ping."

In the trailer, detectives also explain that they were on the search for a particularly violent gang over the murder and that gang members owe the price if they dare snitch.

Jaimie explains that she continued to message people on Myspace, saying: "I was just making them like me, making them trust me before I start being like, 'What kind of car do you drive?'"

Meanwhile, Belinda says that she would drive past their houses and go take pictures of their vehicles.

But detectives also appeared worried that Belinda would ruin the investigation by "threatening them".

Appearing to reference her daughter's killer, Belinda says: "I wanted him to hurt like we were hurting."

Jaimie says that she was worried when some of the men she was talking to wanted to meet her, and claims Belinda told her to agree to meet them.

At the end of the trailer, Belinda says: "I told them, 'Okay, everybody, no violence.' But in the back of my own mind, I still knew I was gonna kill 'em."

*Why Did You Kill Me? is available to stream on Netflix from April 14
