Mum horrified after mouse spotted running through school canteen chased by kids

A mum has been left shocked after footage showed a mouse running through a school canteen.

The video emerged from King’s Leadership Academy in Dingle Vale, Liverpool.

Filmed by an anonymous student, it shows pupils trying to catch the rodent as it races between tables in the school’s cafeteria, The Liverpool Echo reported .

Nicola Kelley has two children who attend the school, she said: "It has been going on since before half term, when my kids were telling me about it, I didn't believe it at first until I saw some of the videos.

"I thought that they would have fixed the problem over the school break, but obviously they haven't.

"I got in contact with them to tell them my concerns, and they came back to say that they saw two mice before the break, and that they thought the students were being dramatic, and that it wasn't as bad as they were making out."

The footage, filmed on March 1, shows only a single rodent racing around, but there were said to be “multiple” mice running around.

The 39-year-old mum added: "My daughter said that she saw at least five mice in the hall which is just outside the canteen yesterday [March 7].

“I have had to start making them packed lunches, I don't want them eating from in there.

"I ended chemo in November and finished radiotherapy in January, I am terrified about my kids bringing any diseases home that these pests could carry, I don't want to catch anything."

The Echo also reported that two further mice were spotted at the school earlier.

A spokesperson for the King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool added: "There was an incident last week where a mouse was seen within the canteen and our estate management team dealt with it immediately and the mouse was caught.

"Covid protocols requiring us to keep doors and windows open for ventilation presents challenges, particularly during the winter months, to stop incidents like this from happening."
