Mum hit with criticism after showing off 50p meal she feeds her family

A mother has faced criticism after revealing what she cooks for her children on a budget.

The mum-of-seven showed off her cost-friendly meal that feeds her family of nine for just 50p per head.

Taking to TikTok, she posted a video of her easy-to-make sausage pasta.

After heading to Asda, the mum purchased two jars of pasta sauce with hidden veg for 89p each, and a giant 3kg bag of fusilli costing just £2.51 at the moment.

The final ingredient was sausages - with 12 frozen Richmond sausages costing just £1.50.

She used only half of the 3kg bag of pasta - bringing the total cost of the meal to £4.53.

To cook the meal, the pasta was boiled, both jars of smooth sauce heated with some water to make them go further, the sausages were cooked in the oven then chopped up and then it was all stirred together.

She described the meal as “quick easy cheap”, giving “guaranteed empty bowls”.

“My kids are fed and happy,” she added in the comments.

But some viewers criticised the mum for not making her own sauce and making the meal healthier.

One person commented: "Homemade sauce is cheaper! Use tinned tomatoes and herbs!"

Another said: "0 nutrition."

"Do homemade next time! It's cheaper," wrote a third.

And another said: "Just use chicken..... much healthies. And a tin of tomatoes, herbs, paprika, chilli flakes, garlic granules, salt and pepper."

But others praised the mum-of-seven for her creativity, with one saying: "Love this! Mum mums sausage pasta is the bomb."

Another wrote: "My mum makes this too, everyone loves it in our household and we are a family of 11."

A third said: "Who doesn't love sausage pasta! Go on mumma."

And a fourth wrote: "Amazing mum, gets the job done and looks amazing."

More than 300,000 people have seen the video on TikTok, with it also gaining more than 19,000 likes.
