Mum hit by Mercedes as she carried her baby at retail park fighting for her life

A young mum who was hit by a Mercedes car as she carried her baby is in a critical condition with life-changing injuries, say police.

The horror collision happened at the busy Bidston Moss shopping complex in Wallasey, in Wirral, shortly after 2pm on Monday.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the mother, aged in her 20s, was critical but stable in hospital, while the baby was not injured.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that the mum had suffered a severe leg injury when she was hit by a silver Mercedes.

The Mercedes also collided with a blue Volkswagen.

The driver of the Mercedes stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and Merseyside Police is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The retail park was closed to traffic most of Monday afternoon with cars being moved on by an officer and an area taped off by police.

Roads policing sergeant Amy Murray said: "We’re asking anyone who was in Bidston Moss Retail Park who may have witnessed the collision yesterday evening to contact us.

"If you captured mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident then please get in touch as any information you have could prove vital to our investigation.

"Whether you choose to get information to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, any information you provide will be acted upon."
