Mum highlights trauma fireworks can cause dogs after returning home to blood-stained bath

Bonfire night may be a while way, but people will light fireworks all year round.

It's important to bear in mind how distressing this can be for our pet dogs at any time of year, but especially in the summer when we're more likely to leave windows open in the heat.

Highlighting the upsetting extent of how traumatic fireworks are for dogs, Emma Hilton Everett, 33, from Bedfordshire, has shared a warning about spontaneous fireworks.

The teaching assistant was heading home from a family reunion to drop her two children off at a sleepover when she heard fireworks.

So upsetting to see (Facebook)

Emma rushed back to her five-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Neekah, who is petrified of loud explosions, remembering that she'd left the windows ajar - meaning the noises would gave been even more unbearable for her pet.

The sight that greeted Emma on arrival was incredibly upsetting.

There was blood in the bath where Neekah had been digging away at the floor and cut her paws, as well as urine from where the shocks had made the dog incontinent.

In her Facebook post, which has since been shared over 100 times, Emma warns: "This is the consequence of setting off random fireworks so we cannot control her environment. Went out to enjoy a family reunion and come back to blood stained bath and wee everywhere.

"We weren't even in the same town so couldn't rush home. Just awful.

"Please think twice about fireworks," adding: "One day the stress will be too much for her and I'll come home to a dead dog from a heart attack."
