Mum held fire poker to man's throat over 'sexual' comments he made to young son

A furious mum held a fire poker to a man's neck and smashed his windows in retaliation to him allegedly making sexual comments towards her young son.

Rebecca Grubb flew into a rage when her little boy described remarks the man had made to him at a pub on January 11.

The 37-year-old did not personally hear the man saying the alleged comments, as she had been outside helping a member of the public who had been involved in a car accident at the time, Hull Magistrates' Court heard.

Having consumed some shots of vodka, the mother decided to matters into her own hands, using the fire poker to break the man's windows at his home, Hull Live reports.

She also held the fire poker to the complainant's neck and threatened to harm him.

The 37 year-old was still holding the poker when police arrived.

Grubb pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 and possess an offensive weapon in a public place, when she appeared before the court on Wednesday.

Mr Farr, acting in mitigation, said the alleged comments made to her son were "very unpleasant".

She left her son in the care of the eldest of her four children as "her temper got the better of her" and she went to the complainant.

"I think the comments made affected her quite significantly," said Mr Farr.

Grubb accepted she had "lost control of her emotions" on January 11 and was "disappointed in her behaviour".

The court heard she had three previous convictions, the most recent from 2016.

She was fined £300 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Presiding chair magistrates Mr Coates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the poker.
