Mum 'hates' one-year-old son's name - and plans to change it in secret

Choosing a name for your child is hard, regardless of whether you are doing it on your own or with a partner.

There will always be people who will judge and criticise the name you pick, but the question is, should you listen to them?

The overwhelming answer is no, as you have to go for the name you like the most, or else you'll be unhappy in the long run.

This is the situation one mum has found herself in after making a snap decision about her son's name at the last moment.

Mum admits she dislikes her daughter and wishes she could put her into care

The unnamed mum took to Mumsnet to reveal her regret over her one-year-old son's name.

She began by explaining that when she fell pregnant, she found the perfect name for her child.

But when it came to giving birth, she felt pressure to call him something else.

The woman wrote: "I had a name picked out for my son that I had always planned to call him.

Mum baffled by friend's very 'unreasonable' reaction to her baby's name

"After giving birth, I found out no one in my family approved of the name and in a horrid mixture of pregnancy hormones and anxiety, I instead chose a random name the doctor suggested.

"I am a single mother with no father figure in my child's life, so probably cared far too much about the opinions of my family members."

The baby boy's name is Ezra, and the mum says she "hates" telling people what he's called and has been calling him something else for months.

What were the most popular baby names of the last year?

She added: "I have regretted this decision ever since.

"I've decided after much heart ache and soul searching to change his name to what I truly wanted to call him, the name I feel suits him better than his current name."

The mum intends to rename her little one Jarrah, but will keep her plan a secret from her family until his name is officially changed.

Mum hits back at cruel trolls who mocked her for unusual baby name choice

People in the comments had mixed thoughts on changing his name so late.

Many urged her to do what feels right for her.

"If that's what you want and that's what you're happy with - go for it! Your child will probably quite enjoy telling the story of their 'two names' as they get older," replied one fellow mum.

However others weren't convinced.

"Get a goldfish," suggested a different user. "Call it the name you like. Leave your child's name alone. This thing about renaming children is quite bizarre. Your child is a year old already!"
