In a heartbreaking and disturbing case out of St Louis, Missouri, a man is accused of carrying out an execution-style killing of a pregnant mum right in front of her four young daughters, all under the age of 10.
According to court documents, Vanier T Jones approached the girls on 23 April and asked if they knew where their mum, Christina Rentchler, was. Moments later, he’s alleged to have pulled out a gun and shot Christina in the back of the head inside her home, while her daughters watched, reported PEOPLE.
Police were called to the house and found 35-year-old Christina unconscious, with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite desperate efforts, she couldn’t be saved, and tragically, neither could her unborn baby. A medical examiner later confirmed she was in her second trimester at the time of her death.
It gets even worse – Christina wasn’t the only victim in the house. Another woman, who had been staying there, was also shot but miraculously survived. In a chilling statement to police, she said Jones had become enraged and opened fire. She said she played dead after being shot and heard him ask the children where their mum was just before he killed Christina.
The accused reportedly has a long criminal record, including multiple felony convictions. At the time of the killing, he had already absconded from federal supervision following a previous conviction. He’s now facing 17 serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and multiple weapons offences. He’s currently being held without bail, with a court appearance set for 12 May.
Meanwhile, Christina’s brother, who identified himself as “Big Brother Shawn”, has launched a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs and support the children as they try to begin rebuilding their lives. Nearly $3,000 has been raised so far, with a goal of $4,000.
On the fundraiser page, Shawn wrote: “Chrissy was an amazing mother of 4 little girls which she adored and loved more than anything. She didn’t deserve to lose her life at such a young age, 35. Her children didn’t deserve to lose their mum.”
He added: “Even if it’s a few dollars we will be grateful. Let’s get my sister where she belongs and these girls something to help in any way.”
The case has shocked the community, not just for its brutality, but for the unimaginable trauma inflicted on four young children who will now have to grow up without their mum.
