Mum 'gobsmacked' by new Asda budget range after saving over £60 in single shop

A mum has been left "gobsmacked" by the value of the new Asda budget range, revealing that she saved over £60 in a single shop.

With the cost of living crisis continuing to worsen, people are looking for any way possible to save money. When Asda unveiled its new low-cost line last week, it was met with a mixed response — with some shoppers suggesting that the bright yellow packaging stigmatised households on a lower income.

However, customers have since praised the savings. One shopper was so impressed that she took to Facebook to spread the news.

Writing on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, she wrote: "I'm in a family of 4. 1 adult 3 child.

"I'm so guilty of spending £100+ a week on food shopping. For a lot to go in the bin.

"When I'm at work the kids have tea with nan and I don't bother cooking for myself. Today I have decided to switch from brands and try the Asda range. And well let's just say I'm gobsmacked!"

Sharing a photo of her shopping, she continued: "All of this with 5 bags (I didn't actually plan on shopping today). £42.66! Absolutely unreal."

Since being shared, the post has received a staggering 16,000 likes and more than 3,600 comments. Asda fans and bargain hunters were quick to share their thoughts.

One said: "I did a shop yesterday with a lot of these items mixed with others. Couldn't believe it £77 for the lot was expecting at least over £100. I was so happy."

A second echoed: "I think this is an excellent post. I’ve used lots of their essential products and my two children really like them as do we. Anywhere savings can be made at the minute is great. Happy Asda essential shopping everyone!"

A third argued: "I've seen so many people slate this range, apparently just because of the colour of the packaging, but it tastes great and is brilliant value for money! Some people need to stop being judgemental especially as the cost of living is soaring."

Another agreed: "Well done you! Nothing wrong with a great bargain and honestly don’t no why some people get funny over stuff like this. As long as you're fed or your kids if you have any then that all that matters!"

They called the savings "unreal" (Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group)

A fifth shared: "I tried this too and was very shocked at how much i managed to save. The food taste so nice too."

Meanwhile, a sixth commented: "I think it's a fantastic range. Why anyone would feel embarrassed by saving a few quid is beyond me. I've happily purchased some of the range myself today. Great value well done Asda."

However, others still weren't a fan of the bright yellow packaging, with one writing: "I always shop on a budget always have but come on Asda you do not have to make your packaging look so bad.

"There is low budget dog food with better packaging. Let’s make people proud of putting budget in their baskets."
