Mum 'gobsmacked' at stranger's random act of kindness as she queued to cross bridge

A mum was left "completely and utterly gobsmacked" after a stranger's unexpected act of kindness at the weekend.

Emma Agnew was heading for a family celebration when a white van driver paid her toll over the Humber Bridge.

She was with her sister Rebecca and four-year-old daughter on Saturday at around 12.45pm when they were headed to Hull for a baby shower when it happened, Hull Live reports.

They were in a queue for the toll booth to pay and when she tried to handover some cash the woman in the kiosk told her there was no need as the driver in front had already paid for her.

Emma who lives in the village of Barnetby le Wold near Brigg said: "I had to ask her twice, I couldn't believe it, I've been driving back and forth over the Humber Bridge for 14 years and this has never happened before."

Emma, who works as a service call supervisor at Endurance Doors in Brigg says she'd like to say a proper big thank you to the driver.

Emma has expressed her gratitude to the mystery driver (jaharland)

All she knows is that it was a man in a white van: "I did manage to catch up with him at the roundabout at Hessle and shout out 'thank you' from the car window but I don't think he heard me".

Emma said even though the toll is only £1.50 it was still a lovely thing to do: "I'm a single working mum on my own with a mortgage to pay and I have to look after the pennies and the pounds and perhaps that van driver does too, so it was a simple gesture but the feeling it gave me was really big one.

"When the woman at the toll booth said 'that guy just paid for you', it just made my day and I would like him to know that I am saying 'thank you'."

Emma says the random act was "inspiring" and she is now thinking of doing something similar for other people.

"It really is an inspiration to do something, it gave me such a wonderful feeling, I told my work colleagues and they think the same."
