Mum given bizarre substitute for coffee in her Tesco delivery

Ordering an online shop to be delivered to your home can be super helpful.

Anyone who shops this way knows that supermarkets swap things they don't have in stock for something very similar.

But one mum was left confused after ordering instant coffee and getting something very different in its place.

Claire Hopkins ordered decaffeinated coffee from Tesco for residents at the supported lodgings where she is a manager, Gloucester Live reports .

But when the 200g jar she wanted wasn't available, she was stunned to find out that it was substituted for with toilet roll.

Having clearly run out of decaf, Tesco had substituted her order with its own-brand shea butter toilet roll.

Claire told Gloucestershire Live: "It was so weird - usually when they're doing a substitute they will swap for something fairly similar.

"But I did not expect that!"

This is when supermarkets reduce their food

She said that in hindsight, the driver who dropped off the delivery "seemed in a hurry to get away."

Claire continued: "It's pretty ridiculous really to make that big a mistake."

Claire said she told Tesco about the mix up via Twitter and was told that they would "look into it" - but received no further reply other than that.

"There was no effort to placate me or send us what we actually ordered.

A spokesman for Tesco said: "Clearly it was just a mistake."
