Mum gets stuck in toilet and has to pay to get out

A public toilet has been closed for repairs after a mum became stuck - and was forced to pay another 30p to get out. Lucy Wishart, 46, had paid to use the loo in the holiday resort of Llandudno when she realised she'd become trapped.

The mum-of-one was then forced to phone her husband Ian, 52, to ask him to insert another 30p to open the door. This followed advice on a poster inside the toilet door - which read "do not panic".

Lucy later shared a photograph on Facebook of the notice in the toilet, which advised how to get out if users became locked in. People are told to "reassure the individual that everything is OK", and instructed to press the unlock button.

It goes on to say that they may have to wait 15 minutes and insert another 30p for the door to release.

Lucy Wishart, from Preston, Lancashire, said: "I'd paid my 30p to get in and when I tried to get out the door wasn't opening. I called my husband who was in the playground with my son after reading the notice on the inside of the toilet.

"It said in order to be released you may have to put another 30p in the machine, but clearly that would be impossible if I was on my own. How can you put 30p in the machine if your stuck inside? What would I have done if I was on my own or had no mobile?

"I'd have had to wait until the next person came along which could have been hours for all I know. It really annoyed me so I took to Facebook to rant and now it's all over the internet!"

Conwy council said the manufacturer has been asked to fix the lock. A Conwy council spokesperson told the BBC: "We have closed the toilet temporarily while the manufacturer inspects and fixes the lock and we make other repairs."
