Mum gets revenge on cheating ex by using his record collection to transform kitchen floor

If you found out that your husband had been cheating on you, how would you react?

Perhaps you'd air their dirty laundry all over social media, or quite literally throw their clothes out onto the front lawn, removing all trace of them from your home.

Or you could do something a little more creative, like Sonia Barton did.

The 47-year-old mum-of-three decided to get her own back on her cheating ex-husband by using his beloved record collection to transform her kitchen floor.

Barton has been living in the same house for the past 13 years, but following the split from her partner, she felt like giving the place a major makeover.

This started with the kitchen, which has gone from having a monochrome colour scheme to being filled with bold hues of pink and purple.

And as well as a fresh lick of paint, the room has also got a new floor, made up of 5,000 miniature flowers, coloured buttons, pegs, coins tiles and of course her ex-husband's colourful vinyl albums.

Explaining where she got the inspiration to use the records, the children's entertainer, said: "I love DIY and I love colour, so it just evolved.

"I originally wanted to do records on the floor when I was married, but my husband at the time didn't like the idea so as soon as we split I decided to do it.

"It amuses me, it makes me laugh every time I walk in the kitchen and see them [the records]."

Barton describes her new kitchen, which has cost around £2,500, as a "labour of love" and says she's been working on it during evenings and weekends for over a year - even though her friends think it's "a bit mad".

"I made all the doors and drawers. I love vibrant colours, so decided to paint the doors," she said.

"I spent ages looking at tiles and couldn't find any that I liked so I brought some plain white tiles, then decoupaged them and then put resin on them.

"The work tops were an eBay bargain which I was able to install with help from a friend and for the floor I bought the buttons and then added coins and records. I glued them on the floor and put a resin over them."

She added: "It's a hard-wearing kitchen, so it should last forever.

"I feel happy just being in it. Stepping inside brings a smile to my face no matter how I'm feeling."
