Mum furious as in-laws cut two-year-old daughter's hair without permission

A mum was left furious after her in-laws cut her two-year-old daughter's hair without permission. The woman says she has separated with her partner after a fall-out over the incident, reports Hull Live.

She took to social media to share her anger over the matter which occurred whilst the family were staying with the in-laws over Christmas. Posting on Mumsnet, the pregnant woman explained that her mother-in-law was mainly looking after her child as she was resting up ahead of her second kid.

The mum said: "My partner and I have been together for 14 years. We have a two-year-old daughter.

"We recently stayed at the in-laws for Christmas and my mother-in-law (MIL) was looking after our daughter most of the days, so I can rest (I am also pregnant with our second). On the last day before we were going to leave, MIL cuts our daughter’s hair without telling me or my partner.

"(The cut is not good and not bad) I was furious and confronted MIL, she admitted it. It has affected me so much that it has caused arguments with my partner everyday."

The mother says she now doesn't want her mother-in-law to see her granddaughter anymore following the incident. However, she says her partner is not on board with this idea.

The mum added: "It has now got to the point where I don’t want my MIL to see our daughter but my partner still wants her to carry on seeing our daughter. We haven’t reached a compromise so now we have decided to separate because he chose his parents over me."

The mother's hair raising dilemma was quick to stir up conversation on social media, with people keen to give their opinion. Many people sided with the mother in the debate between the couple.

One person said: "Oh wow. Are there any other issues with your partner?

"He really thought it was worth fighting with his pregnant wife to let his mother get away without consequences!???", However, others felt the mother was being very unreasonable.

One user said: "Obviously she shouldn’t have done it but you don’t prevent a 2yo seeing an otherwise loving grandparent because of one incident where the child wasn’t harmed, wasn’t in danger and the only thing that was bruised was your authority as a parent."

Another agreed stating: "He hasn’t chosen his parents over you. He’s chosen his parents having a relationship with his child over your (honestly, unreasonable) demand that they not have a relationship.

"If his mother were a risk or a danger to your child then you may have a point." Another said: "To end your relationship because of a haircut (that will grow back) is ridiculous."

Meanwhile, other users asked the mum for more context and if her mother-in-law had previously overstepped any other boundaries. The mum replied back to the questions by claiming that her mother-in-law often shows up to the house unannounced and sets her own boundaries different to the parents wishes.

The pregnant woman added that she also returns gifts to the child back to the family member it was sent be, and is "possessive in photos" during dinners, always insisting on holding the child. After posting an update, more people began to see the mum's side of things.

One person said: "It sounds like your mother-in-law oversteps boundaries all the time and sounds quite overbearing. Why on Earth is she returning gifts given to your family?

"That's such bizarre behaviour." Another user said: "You are doing the right thing.

"Stay strong, you have two children that will be looking to you for security and direction. Sorry your husband has chosen his parents instead of his growing family.

"He's made his bed."
