Mum fuming after 'flashy cow' friend says her son's cartoon t-shirt is 'tacky'

A mum was left fuming after her friend said her son's clothes were tacky and she should dress him better.

The mum said she was upset after her designer-label loving pal told her the clothes she chooses to dress her son in were crass because they had pictures of his favourite characters on them.

The so-called friend told the mum she would never dress her own kids in those kinds of clothes, and opted for big name brands like Ralph Lauren and Nike.

Posting on Mumsnet, the woman said: "I have a 'friend' who hasn't spoken to me since I had DC (darling child).

"There was a picture of my DC who is 17 months old in a character top.

"This friend spoke to me just to say how tacky character clothing is and she'd never dress her kids in them.

"I was a bit taken back by the rudeness to start with and just replied simply with 'okay'. Her kids are always in Ralph Lauren, Nike etc. That's her personal choice.

"Are they really that tacky? DC is young and loves the character clothing and throughly enjoys picking one out everyday. Also almost every pjs are character. I thought they were cute!

"Obviously I don't want DC to look 'tacky' feel like just blocking her or at least hiding my posts from her now.
"Do people really think they look horrible?"

Most fellow mums were aghast at the friend's rudeness and backed up the mum, calling the pal 'a flash cow'.

One said: "She was very rude, ignore her and dress your child however you choose. Do not give her another minute's thought.

Another added: "I think anything Ralph Lauren is beyond naff, what a try hard, flash cow she sounds."

Another said: "Funny because to me putting them in designer labels seems tacky but tbh it's far worse she messaged you just to say that!"

"Honestly, do you care what she thinks? She's only looking to feel superior. Let her disappear up her own hole, with any luck there's no signal there," added another.

However some mums said characer clothes are tacky - but disagreeed with the pals' rude behaviour.

One said: "I think some character clothes can be tacky yes - and some are cute - but as long as the clothes are clean and fit, who gives a damn."

Another said: "Yes it’s tacky - but so are a lot of things to do with young children.

"I hope you’re feeling sorry for your ‘friend’, OP - who doesn’t speak to someone for two years, and then rears their ugly head to tell them their child is dressed badly?!
"That is too embarrassing - I am cringing hard for her."
