A mum has been left raging after her 11-year-old daughter was sent home from school because a teacher said their PE shorts 'looked like hot pants'.
The Year 7 pupil was sent home from the Magnus Church of England Academy in Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire on Tuesday (19 July) amid record 40C temperatures in the area.
Teachers had agreed to let children ditch their uniform for the day — but when the girl reached school she was told that her replacement outfit was inappropriate.
Her mum, who does not want her or her daughter named, has since blasted the school for "sexualising" the girl and claims her choice of outerwear was entirely practical.

She said: "It's just creepy to be sexualising 11-year-old girls like this. My daughter wore the shorts which she does for all PE lessons to be comfortable, not to look good.
"I checked all the school uniform policy and all it states is black shorts.
"They are proper sports shorts, bought from a sports shop not hot pants. It is bizarre, as if they haven't missed out on enough learning."
The mother added that she would not buy her daughter new shorts as it was close to the end of term, and would allow her absence to remain unauthorised.

According the headteacher her daughter was one of 50 girls dismissed that day, with most of them said to have returned later that day wearing appropriate shorts.
Magnus Church of England Academy have since responded by clarifying their policy on non-uniform days.
Executive principal Anna Martin said: "We just asked students to return home to change into appropriate PE shorts. While we know some girls like to wear hot pants-style shorts for PE, they are not appropriate for a day at school.
"We sent this in a message to parents on Friday. Some girls still came in the shorts and were sent home to change and the majority of them complied."
