Mum fumes at Aldi after finding knife in back of toy doll she was set to buy for daughter

A mum was left shocked after she discovered a knife in the back of a children's toy doll.

Haleemah Patel warned other parents to be vigilant after she noticed the blade in the back of the Aldi box at the last minute after picking it off the shelf.

Spying the doll as a present for her daughter while in the store on Monday (January 10), Haleemah quickly flagged it to staff after the knife caught her eye.

The Blonde Tiny Tears Classic Doll had been on the shelf with others for £16.99, with Aldi later confirming the packaging had been "deliberately tampered with."

Speaking to Lancs Live, Ms Patel said : "I picked the toy up the outer packaging was damaged on one side. Looking at the toy my attention fell on a metal object. I was shocked and amazed to see a knife inside.

"I had to look twice to make sure it was a genuine knife. I couldn't make sense why a knife would be part of a toy."

Haleemah immediately alerted an Aldi worker and told him to show his manager.

The mum is now warning people to be on their guard for dangerous items lurking inside toys and says it was "sad if someone's put that inside deliberately and could have gone home to a small child".

Aldi should look in to how it got inside," she added.

Haleemah took photographs of the knife inside the box and it can be seen wedged behind the plastic bottle, with the blade pictured above the bottle and a yellow handle seen below.

Following the incident, Haleemah wants to raise the attention of parents who might miss what she says could have been "fatal".

She said: "I would like to raise attention to parents out there to be vigilant when purchasing toys and check to the contents inside as this could possibly have been fatal if my daughter had picked the toy up."

An Aldi spokesperson said: "When Ms Patel noticed this Tiny Tears product had been tampered with, we immediately took it off sale.

"We can confirm that it is an isolated case where the packaging appears to have been deliberately tampered with.

"Our supplier has confirmed that the product passes through highly sensitive metal detectors before leaving their factory and the packaging could not have been compromised during the manufacturing process."

There is no indication any other products have been affected by what Haleemah says she discovered.
