Mum fumes as people say she named her daughter after an embarrassing sound

Choosing a baby name is hard work, and it can feel very personal if strangers make it clear that they don't like your choice.

One mum has opened up about the backlash she's received on social media for calling her daughter Poot.

The influencer often shares videos of herself with her daughter Poppy, who was born in May this year.

But in a recent viral clip, that has racked up millions of views, the mum-of-one received some of the harsh feedback she has faced since nicknaming her daughter Poot.

"Poot sounds like a fart," one blunt person wrote in the comments.

Another commented: "Can you please put in some thought about these names you all are giving? What if they get bullied for these names."

A third commented: "Just say 'I want my kid to have the worst childhood in school' and be done lol."

In the clip, which has been viewed more than nine million times, Abbie explained she decided to call her daughter by her nickname instead because "everyone hated Poppy".

"I thought Poot was cute too," she added.

She shared a photo of her daughter wearing a hoodie that had the word "Poot" on it.

"Her name is unique and special to us," the proud mum added.

However, the young girl's name has continued to leave people divided.

"When she gets older, no one will take her seriously though, but you can name your child whatever, I don't know," one person commented.

"CHANGE IT AS QUICK AS YOU CAN," demanded another.

"Poot does sound like a fart though … I'm sorry," said a third.

Others also defended the Instagram and TikTok star, with one fan commenting: "She's beautiful. If anyone would want their children to bully another child over their name, they aren't being a good parent. Teach your child to be a good caring person.

"It's sad that someone would ever think it's okay to bully a child.".
