Mum asks daughter, 2, for a hug - but brutal response makes her 'die inside'

Life as a working mum can be tough at the best of times, as you try to juggle your priorities and make the most of your family time.

And for one parent with a young daughter, an unnerving change in her child's behaviour is creating an extra cause for concern.

The two-year-old girl, who used to call her mother 'mommy' is being taken care of by her grandma while mum is busy during the week.

And it seems to have sparked a bit of a change in the mother-daughter relationship.

Taking to Reddit to ask for advice, the mum said: "My two year old randomly started calling me “mother” and it’s really weird.

"I went back to school this month, and with my schedule I’m lucky to see my daughter for more than an hour Monday to Thursday.

"My mom watches her during the day, and she’s starting to call her mama even though it used to be 'gramma' and now I’m “mother”.

"Does she hate me now? I’ll be like 'give mommy a hug!' and she’ll reply 'no thank you mother, go away'.

"It’s really funny, not going to lie, but I feel like she’s roasting me and it’s killing me inside. Is she just being two?"

Fellow parents were quick to reassure the mum that the sudden lack of affection was nothing to get concerned about.

One person replied: "Standard two-year-old behaviour, nothing at all to worry about. Just sit back and enjoy the beautiful, hilarious, sometimes brutal honesty."

But another user thinks that gran might be partly responsible for the issue, saying: "I bet that when your mom talks to her about you, she probably is referring to you as 'your mother.'"

Whatever the reason, you can always trust a two-year-old to properly weird their parents out.
