Mum finds nifty trick to have McDonalds at home while isolating - and the Internet is amazed

If your kids long for a McDonald experience with a proper Happy Meal, we've got you covered.

A mum shared the nifty DIY Happy Meal boxes she made using cardboard boxes, branding them “MumDonalds”, the Daily Star found.

She also made the fries packets herself, to give her children the full experience - and they were delighted.

She shared her trick on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, and soon received a lot of comments and 150 likes from impressed parents.

One responder gushed: “The girls would love these.”

Another said: “I’m going to do this for (my son’s) birthday since we can’t go out.

“I’ve got some animal lunch boxes.”

And a third added: “Handy.”

McDonald’s closed all 1350 outlets in the UK and Ireland on March 23 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, the fast food giant confirmed it had taken the "difficult decision" to close the branches because maintaining safe social distancing was "increasingly difficult".

Drive-thrus also shut - with no date as yet on when they will reopen.

McDonald's chief executive officer Paul Pomroy said they will distribute free food to 'those in need' from the restaurants - with emergency workers to get free meals.

He said: "Over the last 24 hours, it has become clear that maintaining safe social distancing whilst operating busy takeaway and drive-thru restaurants is increasingly difficult and therefore we have taken the decision to close every restaurant in the UK and Ireland by 7pm on Monday 23rd March at the latest.

"I want to thank every single one of our 135,000 employees. I am so proud of them all for adapting so quickly to a constantly evolving work environment, taking every step to keep our customers, couriers and teams safe and looking after each other so very well.

"We will continue to update you thorough our website, social media channels and email alerts in the coming weeks but in the meantime we thank you for your continued support and custom."
