A British holidaymaker is in intensive care after being struck by lightning in front of her daughter. The 48-year-old was on a beach in Split in Croatia when she was hit and knocked unconscious.
The mum and daughter had been enjoying themselves at the resort on Saturday afternoon when the thunderstorm hit, reports the Mirror. They were reportedly trying to reach the safety of a nearby hotel.
Passers-by heard the the screams of the daughter and rushed to help. A medic was close by after dealing with a bike accident in a local triathlon and managed to revive the woman.
She was then taken to Split's KBC Hospital and remains in a critical condition in intensive care. She reportedly has a serious head injury and burns.
An official from the Marjenski Dir triathlon told MailOnline: "The woman was struck close to the beach and fortunately for her one of our oncall medics who was attending the event managed to revive her."
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: "We are providing support to the family of a British national in Croatia and are in contact with the local authorities".
