Mum dubbed 'Worzel Gummidge' and banned by school gates after fake tan disaster

A mum-of-four says her children have banned her from their school and her friends have dubbed her Worzel Gummidge after her fake tan fail.

Janice Evans had plumped for a darker shade than normal when she decided to use the £2.99 bottle of St Moriz to cheer herself up.

But she later shared photos of her disaster on Facebook , showing her with muddy-looking skin and bad hair.

Janice, of Nelson, Lancs, said: “I went for a bottle one shade darker than I usually buy, thinking it would give me a really nice tan but after just a couple of minutes it was really dark.

"I thought that was it, but it just got darker.”

The 38-year-old added: “All my mates have been taking the mick. They said I looked like Worzel Gummidge, especially with the hair.”

Fictional scarecrow Worzel Gummidge, has a head made from vegetables such as mangel wurzels, turnips and swedes, with hair made of straw.

In a bid to look less like her fictional doppelganger, Janice tried taking three long showers and rubbing baby oil all over herself in a desperate bid to get it to fade.

But she added that even her children are embarrassed by her new look and have begged her to stay away from the school gates until he calms down.

She said she will be sticking to a lighter shade of fake tan in future.
