A mum claims she had to drive 100 miles home after 'laughing' bouncers refused to let her return to her hotel room after a night out.
Stacey Bates, 31, says she was left in tears after security guards at Britannia's Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool refused to let her back into the accommodation.
The bouncers allegedly demanded 'proof' showing Stacey was a guest at the hotel before letting her in, the Liverpool Echo reports.
However, when she was unable to provide sufficient evidence, she claims they turned her away and she had to drive back to Middlesbrough.
Speaking to the ECHO, Stacey said: "We booked two rooms at the Adelphi for Friday, May 28 for the night. A double room for my husband Carl and I, and a second room for my friend.
"We checked in and then went out to a few bars in the city centre. When we returned a few hours later, the hotel doormen asked to see our room keys.
"They then said that my room was a single and that Carl was not allowed in. I told them that the room was booked in his name and was a double."
She added: "I went over to reception but the staff said they could not help. I offered to pay more but they said they did not have any other rooms available .
"I was in tears and I remember one of the doormen was laughing at me. I told him that I had nowhere to stay and he said 'you should have paid.'
"I had to grab our cases from the room and pack up the car."
Stacey said she was baffled by the incident. She said: "We checked in at 3.30pm on the Friday and discussed the rooms with reception. If there was a problem why didn't staff raise it then. I paid £13 to park for the night in the hotel car park too."
Stacey's experience left her bitterly disappointed, as the mum said she normally loves a night out in Liverpool.
She said: "I love all the live music on Mathew Street which you don't really get in Middlesbrough. I also love the buzz and the people are so nice.
"We normally stay at the Shankly but I am saving up to go to Florida so we decided on the Adelphi. I have heard a few stories but did not think this would happen. "
Stacey said her bank had refunded the cost of her room.
She said: "The bank have raised it as a disputed payment. But they have said that Britannia might contest it and demand that I pay for the room.
"I just remember the doorman laughing at me as I was crying. It was so frustrating and I did not enjoy the drive back to Middlesbrough at night.
"My husband said he does not want to return to Liverpool now but I am sure we will be back because we love the city so much."
The Mirror has approached Britannia Hotels, owners of the Adelphi, for comment.
