A mother has taken her celebration of influential female figures from throughout history to the next level - by dressing her baby daughter up as some of the most famous women of all time.
Jenelle Wexler, a hairdresser from Chicago, USA and mother of two, came up with the idea when she spotted similarities between the facial features of her four-month-old baby, Liberty Jaine Wexler, and artist Frida Kahlo.
After photographing Liberty dressed up as the acclaimed Mexican artist, Wexler felt inspired to carry on with the project.
“The shots came out wonderfully, and it was soon after that I thought about other women in history that have contributed to the betterment of women and people as a whole,” she says.
“I feel it is important to try and keep the types of traits these women portrayed.
“It exemplifies accomplished through intellect, courage, athletic ability, and a multitude of traits I hope I can teach my children.”
She’s since dressed Liberty up as an array of renowned individuals, including Marie Curie, Coco Chanel, Madonna and Amelia Earhart.
It’s not just the outfit that Liberty wears that’s inspired by each female icon, but also the whole composition of the photograph.
“Once I decide which woman I would like Liberty to portray, I then research the person and create a blurb that describes some of the historic accomplishments this female has attained [sic],” Wexler explains.
Wexler sifts through photos of each woman, which she then uses to brainstorm a costume and background design that will be representative of their character and achievements.
It takes Wexler around 20 minutes to capture each photo, which usually involves taking approximately 50 shots in total.
“Liberty has portrayed 34 individual women of influence,” she says.
“I plan to continue these amazing and empowering images of women - they should and need to be held up as the standard for future generations to aspire to be like.”
Wexler, who also has a two-year-old son called River Holden Wexler, takes the photos on her iPhone.
“I just want to shine a light with Liberty’s help on people we should truly respect in our society,” she says.
“There are so many empowering women who need to be celebrated and have their stories told."
