Mum 'does not blame driver' for fatal crash which killed her son and his wife

A mum has said she does not blame the driver of car involved in a crash her son and his wife died in.

Kyle Khan, 26, and his wife Meesha Afzal, 22, from Birmingham, were sitting in the back of a Mercedes A200 driven by one of their friends when it crashed into a wall in Solihull.

The couple, who were wearing seatbelts, suffered multiple injuries and both were pronounced dead at the scene on December 13.

The driver, also aged in his 20s, was later interviewed "voluntarily" by West Midlands Police with the case still under investigation, reports Birmingham Live.

Kyle's mum Roshni Sajida Yousaf, 51, said that "forgiveness is a huge part of closure" as she comes to terms with the tragedy three-months on.

"Both the passenger and driver sustained horrific life changing injuries and are unable to walk properly," Roshni told BirminghamLive.

"Not only that they are mentally affected... with losing Kyle and Meesha in the same accident.

"I can only say that they’ve lost their best friends. Their brother that was not blood, but held a very high place in each other’s lives.

"Kyle was their school best friend. There was never a time the boys were without each other in hard times and good times.

"Who do I blame? Forgiveness is a huge part of trying to come to terms with the tragedy that’s not only ruined my future, their lives and Aleah's (Kyle's sister) loss of her only sibling.

"They loved each other, the five of them. How could this happen? My beautiful babies have gone.

"I did say to them (the driver and passenger) I blame no-one. I told them 'you both concentrate on getting well both physically and mentally.'

"Nothing will ever be the same. We have to allow the law to investigate and make sense of all that’s happened, so we all have closure."

Louise Hunt, the Senior Coroner for Birmingham and Solihull, said at the opening of the pair's inquests that the grey Mercedes was "travelling potentially in excess of the speed limit."

"Having been unable to stop, was driven on a grass verge where it collided head on with a brick wall," she said.

But Roshni said she does not want anyone else to suffer from this fatal crash.

"Kyle and Meesha will be looking down on us and not want anyone else to suffer or be punished and that’s what keeps me going," she said.

She added: "I do wish they were here and I wake up from this nightmare.

"Let’s hope it’s done (the investigation) sooner rather than later and we can move on from this tragedy.

"Forgiveness is a huge part of closure."

Meesha, a carer, and Kyle, a courier driver, married in Birmingham in July 2017.

Kyle's sister Aleah, 19, even went on their two-week honeymoon to Morocco as she was so close to her "best friends."

Roshni said previously: "They were loved up in anyone’s company and in death they were Romeo and Juliet of this century."

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman added: "The case is still on-going and under investigation. The suspected driver has been interviewed voluntarily."
