Mum divides the internet with 'mean' tooth fairy trick to force son to tidy his room

All parents know the challenge of trying to get their children to clear up after themselves.

But one savvy mum came up with a novel idea to ensure her little one tidied his room without nagging - although after sharing her tactic on social media she was slammed by some as "mean".

In order to convince her son to clean up his room, the anonymous mum wrote a letter impersonating the Tooth Fairy, telling him that his messy room meant she couldn't visit.

The letter read: "I tried to come in and get your tooth but there were so many toys on the floor, I tripped and fell.

"I am going to come back tonight. Please make sure your room is clean so I won't hurt myself again."

The letter was shared on the Facebook group Clean, Declutter, Organise Your Home UK, and while a few parents praised the mum's creativity, others thought the idea was "mean."

One said: "I tried this with my daughter so she put the tooth under my pillow instead!!"

Another wrote: "This is fantastic. I'm going to borrow this," as well as multiple laughing emojis.

A third commented: "I [did] that once time and my daughter said 'the tooth fairy can fly over my toys.'"

Someone else put: "Guilty of this. My daughter was heartbroken and cried but the room was tidy after."

But one unimpressed parent called the tactic "mean and pointless".

They wrote: "Just have your kid clean it's room AND let the tooth fairy come. No tricks needed. This is mean and pointless. Have your kid clean the room."
