Mum divides opinions after blasting partner for giving kids popular cereal for breakfast

A mum has divided opinions after blasting her partner for giving their kids a popular cereal for breakfast. Taking to Mumsnet, she said her husband was 'happy to send their children off to school' having only eaten one bowl of 'rice crispies'.

After asking her other half to give them something more nutritious in the mornings, the couple ended up fighting. She then took to social media to find out if other parents agreed with her.

She said: "I feel very strongly about filling kids tummies properly before school, and while I have no problem with a bowl of rice crispies now and then, that they are ultimately just puffs of air, and the children need something more nutritionally dense.

"We argued about it properly this morning, and now he's in a huff about me undermining him. I just want to gauge what others think - is a bowl of rice crispies and a bit of fruit enough to keep a child's energy levels up all morning?"

Lots of people took her partner's side and agreed cereal was fine. One person wrote: "Not everyone likes big breakfasts."

Another said: "Sometimes kids want something more substantial, sometimes they want cereal. Presumably, they also have a mid morning snack and then lunch".

A third wrote: "It’s fine. Use full fat milk if they are happy with it."

But some parents did agree with the mum. One person wrote: "No - most of those types of cereals are not very nutritious. If the fruit is a banana, then ok. Otherwise no. Mine were on Weetabix and toast."
