Mum disowns fugitive paedo 'monk' son who conned people into paying for her funeral

The mum of a paedophile who fled Scotland to become a self-styled monk in Mexico has disowned him.

Catherine Beaumont said she’s “finished” with her pervert son Rod after learning he’d told people she’d died before conning them out of money to pay for her funeral.

Beaumont, 63, went on the run from Airdrie when he was found guilty of grooming a 15-year-old schoolboy three years ago. He now calls himself Rodrigo de la Cruz and lives in Mexico City with a teenage boy he introduces as his “nephew.”

A local outed Beaumont when he tried to order costumes for yoga figures used in teaching children.

They told our sister paper, the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser, how he’s now borrowing money to pay for his mum’s funeral– in Canada.

But the Record tracked down Catherine to her flat in Dundee and the 86-year-old told us: “I do have a son called Rod but you can’t speak to me about him.

"You would probably think I’ve passed on because I don’t keep very well and the thing is I’ve sent money on to the Foreign Office to give to him.”

Fighting back tears, she added: “That’s me finished. You can only be so sad for so long and shed tears for so long. I’ve given up doing either. Otherwise, at my age I would be under the ground.”

Beaumont – who is accused of abusing children overseas since the 80s – originally fled to Albania in 2016 before resurfacing in Mexico a year later.

One local said of Beaumont: “I lent him money because he said that he was from Canada and his mother had died and he needed cash for the funeral. He knows how to manipulate people and take advantage of them.”

Beaumont would not comment.
