Mum disgusted after 'McDonald's cheeseburger arrived with bite taken out of it'

A mum has been left disgusted after claiming her McDonald's cheeseburger was delivered via Just Eat with a bite already taken out of it.

Natalie Oxford, 39, ordered a meal from the fast-food giant for herself and her 16-year-old Felix on January 19 via Just Eat.

She says when she unwrapped her burger she was horrified to see visible "teeth marks" around a missing chunk of her burger.

Natalie claims the food arrived in a sealed bag, but McDonald's deny the burger was 'tampered with' at their restaurant.

The stay-at-home mum has since complained to Just Eat who have apologised and confirmed they are investigating the matter.

Natalie, from Chelsea, South West London, said: "When I opened the box and saw the bite missing I was shocked and disgusted.

"I showed my teen and they were disgusted too. Who takes a bite of someone’s burger?

"I think Mcdonald's staff did it as the bag was sealed but I don't know, hopefully, Just Eat can work out exactly who did it.

"I don't know why they did it, they probably thought they were being funny.

"My kid said to cut the bitten part off and eat the other half, but I threw the burger away.

"Luckily I'd ordered other stuff from McDonald's so I was still able to eat something."

The family's order for two cheeseburgers, a double quarter-pounder burger, three portions of fries, an apple pie and a sugar doughnut came to £14.97.

Natalie snapped a photo of her cheeseburger and shared it on Twitter.

She wrote: "Ok… so my @Mcdonalds cheeseburger arrived and it looks like someone's taken a bite out of it..?"

Just Eat, who was tagged in the tweet, responded saying they were "not happy to see this" and asking for her order number to look into it.

In a direct message to Natalie, a Just Eat spokesman noted that refunds usually have to be agreed with the restaurant.

However, they said in this instance it was necessary to "step out of the usual process" and issue a full refund as well as a £10 credit note "as a token of goodwill for the trouble caused".

They also stated that they'd contacted the McDonald's restaurant to raise the issue and encouraged her to report it to the Food Standards Agency.

Meanwhile, Mcdonald's maintain that her burger was "not tampered with" at their restaurant.

Natalie said: "Once they remembered to message me back, Just Eat handled it great.

"It's never happened before so it doesn’t put me off ordering from there again.

"But I have had to stop ordering drinks from there as whenever they arrive they’ve spilt all over the food and the bag is soaked - once it even ripped and went all over my floor.

"The food always arrives cold even though it’s three to five minutes away on a bike."

A McDonald's spokesman said: "We place great emphasis on quality control and follow rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections in our food.

"Having reviewed the restaurant CCTV we are confident that the burger was not tampered with before it left the restaurant.

"We understand that the customer has already been in touch with the Just Eat customer services team and been refunded for any inconvenience."

A Just Eat spokesman said: "At Just Eat, we always want our customers to have a positive experience when ordering their food online.

"Whenever a customer is dissatisfied with their order, we will always take steps to address this.

"We are sorry to hear that in this case, the customer's experience fell below the high standards we hope to deliver.

"We can confirm we have already processed a full refund for the customer and are investigating what happened with this order."
