A Scots mum was left shocked after finding a needle near a Scots nursery while going to pick up her child.
The concerned parent shared the image on social media and branded it as "absolutely shocking" after she made the discovery in Larkhall on Thursday.
In the picture, the needle can be seen lying on the pavement with the tip of the syringe uncovered.
She immediately reported the incident to South Lanarkshire Council who collected it this morning from Machan Road - across from Big Bird Nursery.
Another woman also reported finding a needle in the town's Albert Drive.
Shocked locals branded it as "disgusting" and expressed concerns a child or dog could have picked the needle up.
Head of Facilities, Waste and Ground services, Alistair McKinnon, said: “Incidences of discarded syringes or needles being found in public places are thankfully quite rare.
"However, when we are alerted to them, as we were in both of these cases, our aim is to respond quickly.
"The syringe reported across from the nursery was uplifted this morning by our specially trained cleansing team, who are equipped to dispose of these items in the correct, safe manner.
"We also responded to the syringe in Albert Drive, however this was found to have already been removed by a member of the public.
"To ensure safety we would ask that anyone finding such items contacts our customer services centre on 0303 1231020 during office hours or 0800 24 20 24 out of hours.
"Reports can also be logged on our website www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk .”
