Mum praises hidden feature on M&S school trousers for when kids grow out of them

Children may only just be starting their summer holidays, but that doesn't mean parents aren't already looking to get everything in order for the autumn term.

On the to-do list - besides prepping their lunches and convincing them to wear the sturdy thick-soled leather shoes you bought them - is shopping for their school uniform - which you know you'll have to do in another six months time when they've had a growth spurt and shot up three inches.

But not anymore as a woman discovered a pair of M&S school trousers have a secret second hem.

This handy feature means that the trousers can be extended by 3cm - so they can continue to use the same pair time and time again.

Unpick the hems and you'll have an additional 3cm of fabric (M&S)

According to the M&S website, grow-proof hems add an extra 3cm onto the length of the trousers to help them "last all year".

Stunned by the secret feature she took to the Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas group on Facebook writing: "I was today years old when I found this out about M&S school trousers!

"How did I not know this? There is actually a proper double hem!!"

It says: "Just unpick and press for an extra 3cm. Added stretch and an adjustable waist for a perfect fit".

All you have to do is cut along the blind stitching, remove the thread, let down the additional material and press.

The 'Skinny Leg Ultimate trousers' are stain and waterproof as well as crease-resistant.

Unsurprisingly the post received a lot of attention from fellow parents with over 5,000 likes and tonnes of comments.

One person admitted: "I've always bought M&S trousers, how did I not know."

Another added: "I have never seen this thank you."
