Mum devastated after tickets to son's 'dream' Liverpool game are cancelled

A mum who bought her son tickets to his dream Liverpool match was left in tears after an error saw the tickets cancelled.

Debbie Davies, 51, wanted to treat her two children, Izaac, 11, and Izabella, 15, to a day out after a tough few months following the death of their step-dad, Matthew. Debbie bought three tickets for £130 from Seatsnet for the Liverpool FC v Manchester United Match on April 19.

The next day Debbie woke her son up and told him he was going to see his 'dream match' and he "couldn't believe it". Izaac is a huge Liverpool fan but always wanted to see Manchester United as this was the team his step-dad supported.

Debbie told The ECHO : "I went into Izaac's room and asked him what match he had always wanted to see, and when I told him he said 'you haven't done that for me'. His face was a picture, he couldn't believe it.

"I can honestly say it brought tears to my eyes. He went downstairs to tell his mates and I checked my emails and saw in my junk mail I had an email from Seatsnet saying the order was refunded."

The email from Seatsnet read: "This email is to confirm refund of 130.5£ (correct) processed today into the same credit card used to purchase this order. Usually funds should be reflected on your credit card statements from today up to 10 business days depending on your bank.

"We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and waiting to see you soon in Seatsnet."

Debbie says when she saw the email her 'heart sank' and she went to tell her son what happened.

She said: "I was devastated when I saw the email. I went to tell Izaac and he said back to me 'it's alright mum, it's not your fault, which made me even more upset at how well he took it. I tried my hardest to ask the company why this happened but I didn't get a response.

"I think it's awful they can get away with this. In that time I had paid £87 for a hotel as we live in Wales and I haven't even had my money back yet. I love him so much and I am at a loss as to what to do.

"They have had the worst year since Matthew died and I just wanted to do something nice to cheer them up."

Matthew died suddenly on July 14 of last year at the age of 41. Debbie said that although he wasn't Izaac and Izabella's biological dad, he treated them like his own.

Debbie contacted Liverpool FC about the ticket error and the club apologised for what the family had been through. They also advised Debbie on where to buy tickets from in the future.

Seatsnet did not respond to a request for comment.
