A heartbroken mum has opened up on the 'worst year of her life' after her son's sudden death, aged 39.

But tragedy struck on August 24, 2020, when the 39-year-old suffered a heart attack and sadly died.

One year after his death, Gina has paid tribute to her 'amazing' son and revealed what she misses most about him.

She said: "From a little boy, Bevin always aimed for the best. He was first in his grade right up until his final year and he was a brilliant all round sportsman.

"He represented his provisional colours in tennis, cricket and hockey. He was gentle, kind, caring and a good listener.

"Bevin always put other before himself. He was a peacemaker and was respected by all. He was an amazing gentleman who will be missed by all his friends and family."

His partner in the UK and family in South Africa along with all his friends and colleagues, were left completely heartbroken by his unexpected death.

Bevin's death sparked an outpouring of grief with Melissa, his partner of nine years, describing him as 'the most gentle, humble man who had a passion for helping others above himself'

Melissa said: “He was such great fun and always strived to make others laugh, even in difficult situations.

“He had a huge impact on all of his family, friends and colleagues. They all knew him as a hard worker who always wanted to better himself in knowledge as well as kindness.”

A charity donation page was set up in Ben's honour with more than £3,000 donated to raise money for the Cardiology Department at Aintree Hospital and the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity.

A message on his GoFundMe page read: "Bevin's family and I are all absolutely devastated and trying to get through this time as best that we can.

"To try and gain something positive from this tragedy, we would like to raise money in Bevin's memory to support two charities very close to our hearts and that we think Bevin would love."

Gina said: "For me, it's been the worst year of my life. For a mother who carried and gave birth, it's been absolutely dreadful. I miss our chats, messages and pictures, it's like a part of my heart has been ripped out from me."

You can donate to the charities set up by Bevin's family in his name by clicking here.
