Mum defends giving kids 'quick' dinners of sausage and chips - as it's all about balance

As a parent, it can be difficult to navigate social media without seeing posts and videos from other mums and dads that might make you feel as though you're not doing enough for your own children.

But one mum on TikTok has insisted she's tired of seeing so many posts from seemingly 'perfect' families when it comes to mealtimes - as she said that while feeding vegetables to your growing kids is important, it's also absolutely fine to give them a quick and easy meal every now and again.

Kelsey Heward often posts videos of the meals she makes her toddler on her account, @kelseyheward, and while most of them may seem packed with healthy ingredients and complicated to make, she also wants to "normalise" giving young children basic meals too.

In one clip, Kelsey revealed she had given her child a classic meal of sausage, chips, and beans, and wrote on the video: "Let's normalise serving stuff like this to our toddlers as well as the good stuff."

And the caption of the video read: "Sometimes teas are like this."

Kelsey's clip has since gone viral and now has more than 124,000 views - with many parents praising her for helping to make sure other parents don't feel pressured to make every meal the healthiest it can be.

One mum wrote: "My little girl had scrambled eggs, beans and toast yesterday, it doesn’t always have to be gourmet."

And Kelsey responded: "Exactly! I work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, so those days I'm ready for bed at six and need to make a simple dinner."

While another parent pointed out it's more important to make sure your children are fed, regardless of what it is they eat.

They said: "Some days they really don't want to eat the good stuff. They are just little versions of us, you can't force them if they don't want it. Fed is best."

Other comments agreed, with more sharing the meals they'd most recently rustled up for their growing kids.

One said: "We had a fry up tonight, but my toddler doesn't like bacon or eggs, so she just basically had beans, tomatoes, and sausage. She loved it."

As another added: "Fish fingers and alphabet shapes here tonight, mama just had no energy left to do anything else."

And a third posted: "Feeding a child is all about everything in moderation. Go mama, you're doing perfectly."
