Mum defends cutting daughter's hair off as she 'didn't want to brush it anymore'

A mum has sparked a huge debate online after openly admitting that she cut her daughter's hair as she 'didn't want to brush it anymore'.

The parent took scissors to her two-year-old daughter's locks to save the hassle and arguments that would come with brushing her hair.

The mum - who boasts more than 3.4 million followers on TikTok account @mommacusses - shared her controversial decision in a clip, which has surpassed a whopping 4.1 million views.

She explained: "I cut my daughter's hair off because I didn't want to brush it. I know some of you are already in the comment section writing a whole paragraph on how that's horrible parenting, it's traumatising, and how could I even - but listen."

The woman went on: "My daughter was two and hated having her hair brushed.

"I'm talking screaming, wailing, gnashing of teeth, WWE-worthy wrestling matches just to untangle her hair.

"You've heard the advice 'pick your battles' - well that wasn't a battle I wasn't interested in picking.

"So I took her to the salon and we gave her a bob right up to her chin and it greatly reduced the amount of hair that we had to brush."

Expanding on the reason behind her decision, the mum added: "Two year old's - they're a lot. They're just getting used to their own bodies, their world is expanding, and they're beginning to form opinions of their own, and it didn't feel to me that that was the right time to begin the great hygiene battle.

"Fast forward two years and my now four-year-old daughter loves having her hair done. Brushes, braids, bows, she's game.

"That's partly because she got older and her tolerance for stuff increased and that's partly because we didn't make an issue. We minimised the conflict by minimising the amount of hair we had to brush.

"Some may say that's capitulating to a two-year-old. I say work smarter, not harder. As parents, we have to teach our kids a lot of things but not all at the same time."

Since sharing her video, the TikToker's clip has raked in over 4,000 comments to date - where people fled to the comment section to praise the mum for her decision.

Sharing their first-hand experience, one parent wrote: "When my daughter was younger, I got a pixie cut for her because she would twirl her hair into unbreakable knots. Whatever works to minimise the battle."

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: "I'd argue it would be cruel to make them keep their hair long if brushing distressing them that much."
