Mum cruelly shamed online for £1 bangers and mash dinner she makes for her kids

A mum was cruelly shamed on Facebook after sharing the money saving meal she makes for her kids.

And with finances tight for many people across the UK, most might think the easy to make dinner would be understandable.

But the Manchester Evening News reported how one mum was trolled online after sharing the dinner idea.

The woman wanted to show solidarity with other families on a budget and posted a picture of a meal she had made for her children, aged eight and 14, on to the Feeding a Family on £1 a day Facebook page.

And it seemed to also be a bid to help other parents with ideas on how to get kids to eat vegetables.

The woman was soon shot down in flames by other Facebook users who chose to ridicule the meal choice.

One blasted it as "carb overload", while another user said: "Children don’t need veg every sitting but that’s not a healthy balanced meal."

Another attempted to make a more nuanced point, saying it showed the need for nutrition education.

She said: "It's comfort food, it isn't healthy, potato is a root vegetable that does not count as one of the five. There is nothing wrong with it but it isn't a healthy dinner. Two out of three items on the plate are processed food (if mash is homemade if Smash then 3/3).

"It's facts and it just shows how much food/nutrition education is still needed in UK."

However, the post did have supporters, and some kindhearted people came out to back the cost-savvy mum.

One person said: "Surely with all that's happened this year with COVID and job losses the main point is the children are being fed.

"Why do people care what other parents are feeding their children, it has absolutely no impact on your life or day whatsoever."

Another said: "Full tummies is all that matters. Not everyone can afford to have balanced meals every single time. Sometimes people just need to fill up their little peoples tummies. Be kind."

"Honestly some of the judgemental people on here need to give their heads a wobble!! Two children have received a hot meal and will go to bed with full tummies!! I see nothing wrong in that."
