Mum 'critical' with life changing injuries after crash at busy retail park

A mum in her 20s is in a critical condition with life-changing injuries after being hit by a Mercedes at a busy retail park.

The woman was carrying her baby when she was hit at the Bidston Moss shopping complex but Merseyside Police have confirmed the infant was not injured.

Although critical she is said to be stable and the North West Ambulance Service confirmed to the ECHO yesterday she had a severe leg injury.

The crash happened yesterday (Monday, August 16) at around 2.20pm when the woman was hit by a silver Mercedes, which also collided with the car in front, a blue Volkswagen.

The driver of the silver Mercedes stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

Merseyside Police is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Roads policing sergeant Amy Murray said: "We’re asking anyone who was in Bidston Moss Retail Park who may have witnessed the collision yesterday evening to contact us.

"If you captured mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident then please get in touch as any information you have could prove vital to our investigation.

"Whether you choose to get information to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, any information you provide will be acted upon."

The retail park was closed to traffic for the majority of yesterday afternoon with cars being moved on by an officer and the area outside Aldi was tapped off by police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call the Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 7771530 or contact Merseyside Police via @MerPolCC on Twitter or Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook quoting reference 21000570891.

Alternatively you can leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You can also use their online form anonymously: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information-online.
