Mum creates beautiful jewellery from her own breastmilk

A creative mum has made her own jewellery from her breast milk - and saved herself a small fortune.

Sophie Darby wanted to make a special keepsake to mark the special bond between her and her six-month-old baby son Hugh.

But after deciding on a breastmilk memento the 27-year-old was shocked to discover the most basic jewellery can start at £100 and take weeks to arrive.

After a quick bit of research and watching some tutorial videos on YouTube Sophie ordered what she needed and created a ring, a pendant and a keyring from her own breastmilk and a lock of her baby son's hair -  and it cost less than £20.

In order to get the right shapes she needed the savvy mum used ice lolly moulds she bought for keeping baby Hugh cool on hot days.

Sophie told the Record: "I've had so many comments from people.

"They can't believe I've made them myself and it was so easy and so much cheaper.

"I wanted to get something made so I looked in to it and found that with the right materials it was super easy and there is just something extra special about making something yourself. It's super sentimental."

Sophie shared the results with fellow mums on the Motherload Community  Facebook page and they were amazed.

Sophie said: "Mamas, I'm so proud, I've made my own breastmilk jewellery from scratch! "I decided to create duo tone breastmilk resin & finish my ring complete with my babies newborn hair.

"Super easy, super sentimental and a huge sense of achievement."

Sophie revealed she bough resin for £20 from Amazon, preservation powder from Etsy for £8 and a ring base for £2 and made three items and still has some left over to make more.

She added: "I think if I break it down each item cost less than £20 which is a big difference from £100 and upwards."

The Leeds mum's amazing hack was praised by other mums.

One said: "This looks so great! I keep looking at the jewellery but I just don’t have the money.

"I am feeding my fourth child ( I imagine last!) and it would be sooo great to make. Thank you for inspiration."

Another said: "These are beautiful and so precious! I wish so much that I had saved some breastmilk"

Another said: "What a beautiful idea. I've had all my babies now. It's amazing what people come up with as keepsakes. So lovely I'm jealous."

Another added: "Absolutely love this. I have a breastmilk charm too."
