Mum conflicted after asking for her daughter not to be filmed in school's nativity

A mum has been left conflicted and fears she is being unreasonable after asking for her daughter not to be filmed in her school's nativity. The woman says she is the only parent that objects to the performance being filmed and it is not making her popular as it means no one will be allowed to capture the play.

The mum took to social media to explain her predicament and explained that she didn't want 'random strangers' having videos of her daughter. Posting on a popular parenting forum, the woman says her daughter will be performing as an angel in the nativity and is wearing a leotard and tutu as part of her costume, reports Hull Live.

The mum said: "My little one is an angel in the nativity this year-proud mum moment. The school have never commented on people filming on their phones in the past but this year they have asked for opinions.

"I seem to be the ONLY parent that objects and it's not making me very popular. Supposedly if anyone objects there will be a full ban.

"I'm worried about where these videos might be shared - she's wearing a leotard and a tutu, I don't want random strangers having images of my child dressed like that on their phones.

"I'm beginning to think I'm worrying too much but it just makes me uncomfortable. What do you think?"

The mother's dilemma sparked a flurry of conversation on the forum, with people quick to give their thoughts on the situation. Many people saw the benefits in the performance being filmed for those who couldn't be in attendance.

One person said: "Some times if a parent or grandparent can't get to the play then they'll get someone to film them so they can see it....why would anyone think that was a bad thing? By refusing but still expecting your child to still be in the play you are depriving the child's relatives from seeing it."

Another said: "It's a school play you're over reacting, parents want to keep these to look back on, you object and ruin that for all the other parents, if your that concerned then either dress her appropriately and you have nothing to worry about or keep her out of it."

Another person shared a similar experience and said that they were happy not to film their child's performance. They said: "We were allowed to film at preschool but not post on social media. This year I didn't expect to get to film or post as I respect others decision."

Another parent sided with the mum over her fears, stating: "Often parents are quite sheltered and won't understand why some other parents have fears of what may or could happen, they have never had the unfortunate experience touch their lives and realism affect them and so may not always see or understand the need for the rules and safeguarding required for all children"
