Mum 'completely heartbroken' after baby son's grave destroyed by vandals

A heartbroken mum has spoken of her disgust after several babies’ graves were vandalised at a churchyard.

Lorna Hoy said her former partner went to visit their son's grave in St John’s Cemetery, Salford and noticed it had been “stamped all over”.

The headstone had been snapped off while flowers and statues on other graves had been knocked over.

Ms Hoy, who lost baby Jacob in 2015 when he was just one hour old, said the incident has left her “completely heartbroken”.

The 29-year-old told the Manchester Evening News : “Ours was really damaged. There was a book on top of the block and they snapped it off.

“We are completely heartbroken. I cried a lot.

“We expect to put him there and for him to be safe.

"I’ve not got the right words – they're our babies and they’ve been stamped all over.

“To a bereaved parent it hurts. It’s just disrespectful.”

Ms Hoy, who lives in Cadishead with her four children, has since reported the vandalism to Greater Manchester Police.

She said most parents returned to their children’s graves last night to tidy them up.

She added: “Jacob has been there since 2015 and other people have said they have had things stolen from graves but we have never had any problems.

“His grave is still only half there at the minute.

“We had to glue it all back together then glue it back on the stand.”
