You don't get to choose who you live next door to, and while many of us share a space with our neighbours without issue, occasionally there is tension.
One mum was left horrified after returning home to find her neighbour had let a stranger paint her fence. The woman arrived back at her rented home after an overnight shift to find a "random man on a stepladder".
The parent took to Mumsnet to vent after her neighbour also installed an "ugly garage", Birmingham Live reports.

She said: "I'm a 25-year-old woman living alone with two dogs in a terraced house. All houses in the row have an individual garden both in the back and front.
"Next door has recently decided to renovate their back garden, including installing an (ugly) garage in there, building higher fences and a built in kennel for their three dogs. Wasn't bothered about any of this. To be honest I don't particularly like them that much so I don't mind not seeing them."
After arriving home to find the man, she said she "confronted him" and he said the neighbours had given him permission to enter her garden and paint that side of the party fence.
She continued: "Pointed out that I clearly haven't as the gate was double locked and the dogs were out! Tells me 'sorry I thought you'd forgot so I hopped the fence, oh well love let me finish and I'll get out, you'll have to speak to [male neighbour]'. I told him certainly not and to get the f*** out of my garden now before I called the police."
The woman said once he had gone she locked her gate and knocked on her neighbours' front door, but there was no answer. She said they were "definitely in" as she could hear the TV "blasting" and their cars were all parked outside.
Other parents were torn on the issue. Some thought she "overreacted", with one saying: "I'd think that was really nice of them if it needed doing. I think whilst obviously you have the legal right, you've completely overreacted", while a second said: "Honestly if somebody painted my fence for free I'd be delighted!"
Others were completely on her side. One said: "You were exactly right. Completely unacceptable not to ask permission." Another said: "They were very rude not to let you know what they intended and arrange for access".
