A mum has told how she was left in floods of tears by a random act of kindness by a stranger who paid for her daughter's birthday cake.
Kelly Freeman, from Wythenshaw, Manchester, had ordered a little mermaid cake from a local business for her daughter, Piper's, fifth birthday last week.
The mum-of-three had already paid upfront for the impressive sculpture cake, but when she arrived Kelly was handed her money back.
The 28-year-old, who lives in Benchillwith her partner and three children, was told that the cost of the cake had been covered by a total stranger.
Brown envelope
Kelly says she was handed a brown envelope with the money inside and a message from a woman named Gemma, reports the MEN.
The letter read: "Please accept this random act of kindness in memory of my beautiful baby girl Tilly, who was born stillborn in October 2016.
"On the 4th October she turned three and this year we wanted to pay for a little girls' birthday cake as we should have been doing.
"Lots of love Tilly's mummy, daddy, two big brothers and little sister."
Kelly said: "Piper loved the little mermaid so we wanted to order a cake that we could surprise her with on her birthday.
"I went to pick up the cake thinking that my boyfriend had already paid for it.
"But when I got there I was handed a brown letter before and asked before I took the cake, if I could read it.
"I just turned into an emotional wreck and burst out crying when I read the note."

Kelly says she was told that the woman, named Gemma, wanted to do an act of kindness because her daughter who was born stillborn, would have been celebrating her birthday at the same time.
"Some lady I don't know from Adam, a total stranger, has taken it out of the goodness of her heart to pay for my little girl's birthday cake," Kelly added.
"You don't really hear of people doing things like that so it was a bit of a shock really."
"I mentioned it to Piper but with her being five she didn't fully understand, but she got a bit emotional.
"The whole thing was really emotional, it took me a couple of days to get on Facebook and write a post about it."
Kelly's post on Facebook has since been liked and shared hundreds of times, with people praising the random act of kindness.
"I actually managed to speak to Gemma a couple of days over the phone and I hope one day we'll get to meet up in person," she said.
"But I really just wanted to thank her publicly, because things like that don't happen very often."
