Mum claims daughter's school is punishing her for showing 'a centimetre and a half of ankle'

A Nottinghamshire mum has claimed her daughter is being punished for showing "too much ankle" at school.

Lea Scott has hit out at her daughter's schools uniform policy, claiming she has been repeatedly told her trousers are too short.

Paige Bradwell, a Year 10 student at Rushcliffe School in West Bridgford, has been pulled out of lessons by teachers over the length of her trousers, according to her mum.

Ms Scott, 33, told Nottinghamshire Live: "She's grown a bit in the last few months - by the sounds of it lots of students are being punished because of issues like this.

"In my opinion, the school is just a bit backwards. She can wear a skirt but not trousers that are slightly short?"

Lea, a single parent with another child on the way, said buying uniforms regularly is "expensive".

"I just don't know what to do anymore - it's an ongoing battle," she said.

"They've really come down on it in the last few months. I think she was showing a centimetre and a half of ankle - that's how pedantic they are being.

"She's being taken out of lessons and put in isolation rooms for the whole day. I think it's appalling."

The school's uniform policy, which can be viewed online, says trousers are expected to be "plain style covering the ankle and the sock" and that they "must touch the top of the shoe".

It adds that pupils are expected to wear the school's uniform "with pride".

The Manchester Evening News has approached Rushcliffe School for a comment.
