Mum caught 'battering son, 6, on security app after he had trouble reading'

A mother was caught battering her son on a security app after the six-year-old 'had trouble reading', police say.

Police discovered the footage when they searched the home of Nicole Lynn Marker, 26, in Phoenix, Arizona.

The disturbing videos were filmed by Marker's Ring home security app and show her assaulting the boy as he does his schoolwork.

A probable cause statement from the police, which was included in Maricopa County court documents, say the clips show Marker punching or slapping the boy him when he struggled to complete his homework, or pronounce a word properly.

After viewing more than 2,200 clips, police found 11 incidents where the boy was unable to do his homework.

Marker's boyfriend William Johnson, 28, was also arrested in connection with the abuse (Phoenix PD)

Marker's boyfriend William Johnson, 28, was also arrested in connection with the abuse.

Videos show the boy being grabbed, lifted up and hit in the face repeatedly by a man, the document says.

Marker was arrested on Tuesday following a five-month long investigation by police.

A probe was launched after the boy's teacher noticed a burn on his arm.

It's reported police found footage recorded between January 1 and the end of April.

A medical examination was carried out and the boy's injuries were consistent with the claims made by him against Marker and Johnson.

He had neck discolouration and scabbing, and police are also investigating claims Johnson hit him with a belt, reports AZ Central.

Marker has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a minor.

Johnson is facing 11 counts of aggravated assault.

His bond was set at £4,000 ($5,000) and Marker has been freed on bail.

The boy has taken into foster care and neither of them are to have any contact with him.
