Mum carrying baby escapes house fire in Stapleford through window

Neighbours near a house fire in Stapleford 'rushed to fight the blaze' as a mum climbed out of the window with her baby.

Firefighters were called to reports of a house fire in Harriett Street, Stapleford at around 2pm on Sunday, August 18.

The mother and young child in the property were alerted to the fire by their neighbours, the crew has confirmed.

As the exit to the house was blocked, the mum and baby were forced to climb through a downstairs window to escape.

Before crews had arrived, people living in the street were already attempting to tackle the blaze using garden hosepipes.

A spokesman for Stapleford Fire Station confirmed the fire had started in the front room.

He added: "A young family were alerted by their neighbours to a fire in their property around 2pm.

"They found their exit blocked and were forced to leave the address, carrying a baby, through a downstairs window.

"We were quickly alerted via our joint Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire fire control room.

"While we were on the way the community rushed to the family's aid and fought the blaze externally using garden hosepipes.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet bought the blaze under control.

"Our specialist fire investigation team (including fire dog) are now working closely with Nottinghamshire Police to determine the cause of the fire.

"Our team will be in the Mill and Fredrick Road area tomorrow offering advice about fire safety including fitting smoke alarms.

"Grab them if you see them, or if you want some free home safety advice please DM us.

"We are pleased to report that there were no injuries during this incident."
