Mum can't afford headstone for tragic daughter, 10, who died after collapsing at school

A grieving mum whose 10-year-old daughter died after collapsing at school is appealing for help to make a perfect resting place for her little girl.

Cheryl Stephens wants to mark her precious daughter Kiyah’s passing with a headstone but can’t afford to buy the monument, after years of struggling financially.

Kiyah was born with congenital heart disease and died "too young" after collapsing at school, reports LeedLive.

Since her death in 2017, single mum Cheryl has been unable to save enough money to put a headstone on her grave and her friend has now set up a fundraising appeal on GoFundMe.

The fundraising page reads: “I’m setting this go fund up for a good friend of our family. Me and Cheryl first met at the hospital as both our daughters were in.

"Kiyah suffered from a heart condition and in 2016 had a 7-hour operation she came through it like a warrior.

“She loved life. A nurse who cared for Kiyah described her as a butterfly and in her 20 years of being a nurse, Kiyah's death really affected her.

But on May 10 2017, after Cheryl dropped off her daughter at school, she received a devastating call to say Kiyah had collapsed.

Nothing could be done to bring her back.

Since then, Cheryl has tried to save up for the perfect resting place for her beloved daughter, but it has proven too costly.

Her friend wrote on GoFundMe: "I chose to help Cheryl do this as I know she’s tried over the years to get this for Kiyah, but we all know how expensive it is.

" Cheryl has a beautiful soul and as a single mum she struggles daily not only with the loss of her daughter but the pressure she’s had because she hasn’t been able to do this financially.

"Please donate if you can even if it’s just a pound every bit helps I won’t stop until I’ve done this if it takes me years it’s the very least this princess deserves and her family thank you all for taking the time to read this.”
