Mum branded 'over-sensitive' after reaction to teacher's 'friendly banter'

A mum has been branded 'precious' after her reaction to a remark made by her daughter's school teacher.

The mum took to the popular online parenting forum Mumsnet's Am I Being Unreasonable [AIBU] thread to enquire as to whether she was being 'over-sensitive'.

She explained on the social media site that she bumped into her child's Year One class teacher who made a comment which the mum believed to be "s****y", reports Liverpool Echo.

The mum headlined her post '[AIBU] To think DD’s [dear daughter's] teacher shouldn’t have said this?' and added: "DD and I bumped into her Year 1 teacher outside school this afternoon.

"DD said to her, ‘are you going home?’ And teacher said, ‘yes, it’s the best part of the day’.

"AIBU to think it’s a slightly s****y thing to say to a little kid who’s in your care all day?

"Genuinely interested to know if I’m being over-sensitive."

The mum's post was met with more than 150 comments, with many Mumsnet users keen to share their thoughts.

One person said: "You're being ridiculous."

A second said: "You're being over sensitive. It’s the best part of my day too."

A third added: "Is this your first child? Seriously, it's just friendly banter".

Another Mumsnet user posted: "It's probably your child's best part of the day as well."

A fifth commented: "YABU and precious."

Another Mumsnet user said: "It was a lighthearted throw away comment. You are being incredibly unreasonable."

And another said: "OMG - everybody says that after a day at work."

Another posted laughing face emojis and said: "Definitely over sensitive."

One Mumsnet user commented: "So she’s meant to prefer spending 5 hours with your little darling over going home, taking off her bra, stuffing chocolate in her face and cuddling her own kids? It’s lighthearted OP [original poster]."

Another said: "You really think teachers should pretend they want to be with their pupils 24/7?! Your little cherub is not everyone’s cherub!"

And another added: "My new class dance around the classroom to the Friday song, which they did in reception too. They are just as excited by the end of the day/weekend as the adults. You are being over sensitive, yes!"

After several people had weighed in with their views, the original poster added a follow up comment and conceded: "Ok, hands up! I’m being over sensitive. Good to have the reality check."

At the time of writing, 92% of Mumsnet users voted that the mum was being unreasonable.
