Mum branded genius for tiny bathroom she's built for son to teach him independence

A mum has taken an unconventional - but very creative - approach to getting her toddler to use the bathroom like a grown-up - by giving him his own space.

TikTok user @layerkakes showed off the adorable mini loo she and her husband built for their son in the corner of their family bathroom.

The toddler's own private space comes with an appropriately sized working sink and a potty that's shaped just like a toilet. It's also got a cute polka dot rug, and a shelf for the toddler to put his toothbrush, toothpaste, and hairbrush.

The mini bathroom has a hook next to the sink where the youngster hangs up a towel to dry his hands, and there's even a plastic basket to put his dirty laundry in.

Sharing the video showing how the creative parents put the space together, the mum said: "Making my toddler is own corner in our bathroom! The sink works, and it separates the dirty water. He loves it!"

The video has since gone viral and has more than 3 million views, with other parents in the comments blown away by the genius idea.

One person wrote: "Why are some people on level 1000 of parenting and I feel like I’m stuck on the boss fight at level 5?"

While another said: "Really good idea! Kids learn best by mimicking adults."

And a third added: "This is actually genius! If we have a bigger bathroom when we move I'm so doing this."

Another commenter pointed out the benefits of giving the toddler his own space, as they said it would teach him to be independent and give him the tools to get comfortable with things like potty training and washing his hands without parental guidance.

They said: "This is awesome. This child has an opportunity to grow up independent and with good values. Great job."

While others were eager to know where the parents got the mini items from, as they were keen on trying it out for themselves.

Someone said: "I need a list of these items and where you got them from."

As someone else posted: "Nice! Where on Earth did you get that sink? I need one."
